Inciscent Partners With Inviso to Wirelessly Deliver Multimedia Applications

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 2001--Collaboration to Develop Image-rich Video and Data Applications for Next-generation Wireless Networks and Enterprises

Inciscent, Inc., the wired-to-wireless software company created with the strategic and equity participation of Aether Systems (NASDAQ:AETH), Metrocall (NASDAQ:MCLLC) and others, together with Inviso, Inc., the leading developer of microdisplays and systems for mobile information access, today announced an agreement to co-develop and co-market wireless multimedia solutions for mobile professionals.

Using Inviso's unique OptiScape microdisplay technology, Inciscent and Inviso plan to incorporate streaming media capabilities into Inciscent's suite of wireless applications and products that target select vertical enterprise markets. The partnership will combine the latest in virtual display technology and wireless application development expertise to provide full color, high-resolution, wireless applications never before viable in a mobile solution.

"The Inciscent-Inviso applications will focus on usability, placing user needs at the center of the development effort," said Tom Matthews, president and CEO of Inciscent. "Inciscent will develop applications that utilize Inviso's microdisplay technology to give our customers the visual equivalent of a 19-inch desktop display from a portable wireless device," said Matthews.

"Inviso's OptiScape microdisplay technology dramatically improves the mobile user experience by providing them with the same rich Web content and graphical user interface as they had at their desktops," said Joy Weiss, CEO of Inviso. "Fully integrating microdisplay-equipped PDAs like Inviso's eCase device with wireless data access will create a wealth of exciting new application possibilities for Inviso and for Inciscent."

Inciscent is the creator of SkyBox Mail(SM), a unique, reliable wireless extension of desktop email. Product features include the ability to send and receive e-mail with Microsoft(R) Word attachments from up to 15 different e-mail accounts. SkyBox Mail supports popular IMAP4 and POP3 e-mail platforms, such as Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino, for a wide range of wireless devices and networks.

Inviso's microdisplays combine a digital CMOS backplane with advanced liquid crystal technology and patented viewing optics to create a low-power, highly integrated color display for mobile appliances. Typically viewed at about one inch from the eye, these displays create a virtual image equivalent to a 19-inch SVGA desktop monitor viewed at 2.5 feet.
