Metrocall's My2Way Supports Northwest Airlines Operations; Two-Way Wireless Messaging Interfaces With E-mail and Other Interactive Devices

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2001--Metrocall, Inc. (NASDAQ:MCLLC), one of the nation's largest wireless data and messaging companies, announced today that it will support Northwest Airlines' headquarters and hub operations with two-way interactive messaging services.

Northwest's workforce will initially use the Motorola T900 device with Metrocall's My2Way service to provide a mechanism for timely responses to important messages. In the future wireless devices that feature an operating system, such as the Motorola Timeport, may be used along with vertical software applications to support certain areas of the company.

My2Way messaging service will be particularly helpful to Northwest operational areas that depend on quick response, such as pilot fleet captains, station managers, emergency response teams, management support staff and IS teams. Two-way service can interface with e-mail, other two-way devices, or be contacted via traditional paging processes, including a toll-free phone number with voice mail.

"Metrocall's My2Way provides Northwest with unique interactive communications that will lead to new efficiencies and immediate response capabilities within the airline's busy operations," said William L. Collins III, Metrocall's chairman, president and CEO. "The ability to respond to important information and time-sensitive messages brings a new dimension to an organization with complex, wide-spread and fast-paced activities."

Northwest already has an excellent record of incorporating the latest technologies to foster effective operations. During the 1990's it was the most on-time U.S. carrier of the seven largest airlines, according to Department of Transportation statistics. Northwest also won the 2000 Technology Management Award by Air Transport World magazine.

"Airline activities require consistent and dependable communications between many operational areas," said Chuck Scollon, Northwest Airlines Communications Manager. "Services such as Metrocall's wireless messaging will help Northwest Airlines maintain its record of excellence in on-time arrivals and customer satisfaction."
