ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BW HealthWire)--Feb. 5, 2001--Metrocall, Inc.
(NASDAQ:MCLL), one of the nation's largest wireless data and messaging
companies, today introduces IRM 2.0, the latest in on-campus wireless
networking, at the 2001 HIMMS Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans,
LA.
Metrocall's IRM, or Integrated Resource Management System, is an
onsite wireless network that provides real time access to multiple
devices, administered through a central server. The new IRM 2.0
is distinct from previous IRM systems because of its universal wireless
platform, developed by Metrocall partner Inciscent, which can transmit
to any wireless device, such as PDA's, two-way devices and PCS phones.
Inciscent is a wired-to-wireless full service ASP focused on the
business-to-business (B2B) market.
With the IRM, critical data and messages, such as lab reports,
patient updates and emergency alerts, are sent from a central PC-based
location to a large group or to only one device. Units can be upgraded
or replaced in-house, which negates the need for third-party involvement.
When coupled with an onsite antenna, coverage is exceptional with
transmission time of approximately 5 seconds or less. Attendees
can learn more about the new IRM 2.0 system by stopping by booth
no. 1548 at HIMMS.
"This is a big step in the evolution of campus-based, in-house
administered wireless networking because now multiple wireless platforms
can access information from one system," said Nancy Green, vice
president of Metrocall's systems applications division. "HIMMS is
the ideal place for Metrocall to demonstrate the efficiencies that
result from in-house administered wireless communications systems
applied to the healthcare arena."
Metrocall is the leading wireless provider to the United States
healthcare industry. More than 4,000 major hospitals, clinics, medical
and healthcare facilities nationally are Metrocall subscribers utilizing
IRM systems, and hundreds of thousands of wireless data and messaging
devices as well as cellular and digital PCS phones.
During the past few months Metrocall IRM systems have been installed
in several hospitals and medical campuses throughout the country
resulting in internal communication processes scalable to several
thousand wireless devices. In addition to medical campuses, the
IRM has also been installed in manufacturing facilities, such a
BMW parts plant in South Carolina.
Casinos and municipalities have also chosen Metrocall's IRM system
because of its immediate response time and its transmission capabilities
in large buildings traditionally plagued by poor coverage.
