Metrocall Connects Valley Baptist Physicians Via In-house Wireless IRM System

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2001-- Quick Transmission, On-site Administration Provides Efficient Communication Process to Medical Center

Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL), one of the nation's largest wireless data and messaging companies, today announced that its Systems Applications Division has installed a new state-of-the-art Integrated Resource Management (IRM) system to facilitate wireless communications for Valley Baptist Medical Center (VBMC) of Harlingen, TX.

Metrocall's IRM system is an on-premise wireless network that provides expeditious transmission time to ten, or ten thousand, wireless devices, making it ideal for the critical communications demands of large, campus-based healthcare organizations.

VBMC offers services ranging from critical care and pediatrics to joint replacement and an emergency trauma center. Metrocall's IRM system links work forces through centrally administered servers, and on-site transmitters, providing for virtual transmission of less than five seconds. Wireless messages can be sent to specific groups or to a single user.

Among other benefits, the in-house administration saves time by eliminating the need for third party participation in switching wireless devices or adding new users to the system.

"Valley Baptist Medical Center will recognize immediate benefits from the latest in campus-based wireless technologies," according to Nancy Green, Metrocall's systems application division vice president. "With a dedicated VHF transmitter on-site, important messages will be delivered faster than traditional paging methods, and in-house administration provides for convenient exchange of devices. Simply put, this locally operating wireless system will give peace-of-mind to health care professionals dependent on medical data and messaging between colleagues."

Currently the Metrocall IRM links physicians and other colleagues throughout the Valley Baptist campus. In the future it will also be used to administer the medical center's nurse call system as well.

This is the second announcement of a Metrocall IRM installed at a healthcare facility in Texas this week. It was announced Tuesday that Star Anesthesia, of San Antonio, had also chosen Metrocall for its internal communication needs. The Metrocall IRM system will be demonstrated beginning this Monday, February 5, at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMMS) 2001 Exposition in New Orleans, LA.
